LDDrives.exe and freezing desktops

$

Our user community is complaining of temporary freeze-ups on their computers. These last anywhere from 10 seconds to several minutes. In our troubleshooting, one thing we found is that during the freeze, LDDrives.exe was running and then stopped around the time the computer became responsive again.

In looking for info on exactly what invokes this process. I can't find anything in the doc or on-line.

The only thing I find in the install is it's included as a file in the .ini file under [CommonFiles].

Can anyone give me insight into this or somewhere that I can look for more info?

Thanks,

Meg

LDMS 9 - Agent Failing when Pushed

I have a question regarding my LDMS9 Test Environment. I've successfully discovered a device using Unmanaged Device Discovery within my small 2 PC / 1 Core test environment. After I discovered PC1 I wanted to push the Agent I created out to it. When I do so the Scheduled Task fails. It states Unable to contact the specified machine. The machine may be off or unreachable. Well, the machine is on and is pingable from the core. Anyone have any suggestions to why this may be failing?

Other notes: PC1 is a Windows 7 Machine and these computers are in a a WORKGROUP.

9.5 - LANDesk Agent Deployment Upgrade "Agent setup program returned an error" (Push Deployment)

Upgraded agents from 9.0SP3 to 9.5AllPatches and a good portion of the agents failed to update during the push deployment. The error received in the scheduled tasks window is "Agent setup program returned an error". I remember seeing this occasionaly the last time we did a deployment but rerunning the task on the computers that had failed generally came back successful. Not the case with 9.5.

Every machine that fails has the same symptoms, which leads me to beleive they are failing for the same reason. If you check the services on a computer that had a failed installation, the ONLY landesk services that are present are "LANDesk Targeted Multicast" and "LANDesk(R) Management Agent". A way to repair the agent on the computer, is that I can run Uninstallwinclient.exe then install the agent manually with a self contained exe and the installer goes through just fine. The problem is I cannot afford to do this on every single computer that has failed. I am still working on a way to identify all of the agents that did not install correctly. At the moment I am considering a loginscript vbs file that checks for the existance of the core landesk services.

I have attached the wscfg32.xlg file with the hops that someone can point out why the agent install is failing on so many machines. If any other information is needed please let me know.

UDD via Active Directory Security Group Memebership

Greetings,

After carefully reading through the product manual and trying to find an answer in the forums, I have yet to find a solution in using an Active Directory "security group" -only- as a method for UDD. There are options for "NT Domain" and "LDAP", however neither seem to support anything other than a Top Level Domain, or an Organizational Unit, respectively. Every option in the Scanner Configuration pane is deselected except for which option I'm attempting to configure. We absolutely cannot perform a “ping sweep” function, too many networks.

1) If I navigate the UDD Scanner Configuration pane and choose "Discover device using NT Domain" without an IP range selected, and I enter a FQDN to the OU where I have unmanaged computers, it fails. Error is as such "The following error occurred while trying to connect to the server: Unknown error (0x80005004). Add anyway? (Yes) (No)." However if I only enter a top level domain, it succeeds but will scan every computer object in that domain.

2) If I navigate the UDD Scanner Configuration pane and choose "Discover devices using LDAP" without an IP range selected, and I enter the LDAP Distinguished Name for the security group (Canonical Name) as such “LDAP://corp.domain.com/CN=UniversalSecurityGroup,OU=Landesk,OU=Division,DC=Corp,DC=Domain,DC=com”, I can see right away in the Scanner Configuration pane that anything in the “Select individual OUs” list that starts with “CN=” is greyed out, and only “OU=” is highlighted. Scanning yields no results.

The idea is to have administrators in other domains easily add a Universal Group/Global Group to these machines, and UDD will find them based on membership. Ideas?

Agents On An Image

I've seen this in various docs but still don't have the definitive answer.

We build our Windows 7 images, add applications and config, sysprep and then capture the image. With some of my other agent based software, the vendor gives us registry keys to delete or modify so that when we set up the machine for the user, the correct information will be there...no duplicates, etc.  Note that I'm not using LD to deploy the OS.

For LD, I've seen: "Can't use an agent on an image" or "change these reg keys" or "sometimes it works, sometimes not", "Forget about it, just do an unmanaged device rollout when the machines are on the domain."

So which way to go here? We are now creating student images for our summer rollout.

Thanks.

Advance Agent Installation Problem

Hi,

We are currently experimenting with how to best deploy the Advance Agent for our environment (LD 8.8 SP2a - installed and running for about 12 months). As you already know LD now recommends using the Advance Agent for upgrading existing agents in the field.

I have created the Advance Agent - and have tried the following methods of deploying to a newely SOE'ed machine which when provisioned LANDesk installs the agent automatically since the machine was already in the inventory:

- GPO:  Set up a GPO with the Advanced Agent msi. Unit picks up the GPO and installs the msi, event log records msi started and then later records successfully installed, on the target machine Processes lists "TEMPldtemp.exe" as using 50% CPU. left machine for four hours, no agent deployed and still 50% utilisation on the CPU. Rebooted machine and everything back to normal except that the new agent configuration did not deploy. Event log indicates that the "msi installation was rolled back successfully".

- Push Install:  Advance Agent was 'pushed'  out to the machine using LANDesk, same results as above. Scheduled Tasks list the task as Successful and a result of  "The agent setup program ran successfully".

- Manual Install:  Ran the Advance Agent msi from the "\\core-server\ldlogon\AdvanceAgent" directory, agent installs as expected and within about 15 minutes. Processes change as expected and CPU utilisation varies during install.

I'm really pulling my hair out on this one. I can't imagine that I'm going to have to go to each machine and run it manually.

Has anyone got any suggestions...?!?!?!?

thanks,

Matt

WSCFG32 not installing services

$

After an OSD script with Sysprep runs, our machines run wscfg32.exe with the standard switches (used LD wizard to create the OSD scripts).  The agent gets installed, but there are some services missing.  Specifically:

-LANDesk Policy Invoker

and

-LANDesk Out of Band Monitor Service (about 50% of the time installs fine)

Once the machine reboots and is all checked in with the Core, if I push the same Default Agent config as a scheduled task the services are then installed properly.  Basically I've had at least 50 machines roll out recently that do not have these services installed.

Any idea why wscfg32.exe isn't creating these services?  This hurts us because we use the Software Deployment Portal pretty frequently as well as policy-based software distribution.

We're on 8.8.  Thanks.

"Bogus" Core Server is listed in addition to regular Core Server

We recently upgraded to LANDesk 9.5.  We have a new server and did a clean install of LANDesk 9.5, including the SQL Express database--basically started from scratch. Our core server is called S21.

An odd this has happened. In my Network View under All Devices I see two Core Servers:

Server A:    S21 is shown as a server and has an IP address of 10.1.3.1 - this server shows a status of being powered off in LANDesk.

Server B:   S21 is shown as a workstation and has an IP address of 10.1.3.48

Server B is the Core Server. That is, the 10.1.3.48 is the static IP address configured on the machine. It has Server 2008 R2 installed.

The IP address for Server A is not on our network. It cannot be pinged. It was not issued via DHCP.

Patching is bizarre. If I right click on Server B I see many patches. I configure them as a task. Run the task. Both A and B show up in the task. A will be successful and B will fail.

Any idea what I should do here?

Agent install fails with result code 1084 - can't register runasuserlibrary.dll

I'm using LANDesk 9 with SP2. I'm trying to push push agent install to 20 Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit workstations. The workstations are new and are identical (OS installed, joined to the domain, GPO updated, no Antivirus software installed). The install fails on four of them with the message "The agent setup program ran successfully." result code 1084. I checked the installation log on the failed workstations and it looks like the agent install fails to register runasuserlibrary.dll.

Below is the excerpt from wscfg32.xlg on one of the machines:

12/03/2011 00:04:33.847    3088    1376    tokens.cpp    562    Starting process: C:\Windows\system32\regsvr32.exe /s "C:\Program Files (x86)\LANDesk\LDClient\runasuserlibrary.dll"

I went to the machine and tried to execute regsvr32 command manually from the elevated command prompt (Run As Administrator). The error was:

regsvr32 error.png

Any thoughts why this is happening on some of the workstations and not the others?

Thanks.

I have a machine that has agent installed fine, is displaying in the all devices. However i have noticed that the remote agent control status has not been loaded. When i run a scan from the machine itself it seems to work and data has been sent to the core server. When i run a scan from the LDMS server console it fails- cba8, unable to contact the remote agent

when i do a repair job it says straight away- Cannot Find Agent

The agent has been removed and re-installed. Same agent version as other machines.

i have re ran the cba8inst.msi file no issues.

Cant do any repair jobs or scans from the LDMS?!?!?

Any help would be appreciated. **(FYI-im away next week so no reponse until the following week)**

LD Client 9.5 Update

Is there a BKM on updating the LD Client to 9.5?  I have successfully updated my core, created a new agent, exported the exe, but when I run the install, the version is 9.0.3.31.  What is the correct version for 9.5 client?  If the new client is also supposed to be version 9.5, then why the agent that I just created not the same version number after installation?

Query for LANDesk version

I am doing an agent install for 8.80 SP2A.  So I created a query based on who needed the patch, no problem.

Then I summed up those who have with those who needed and I didn't come up with all my devices.

Now I'm wondering if all the users didn't get SP2 and are on SP1

Can I create a query to find out what version of the agent is installed?

Thank you,

Landesk agent/RSA DLP agent conflict

$

Hello,

We are currently seeing a problem with our Landesk agent (9.0 Sp4,3) with USB block and our RSA DLP Agent on Win7 Pro 64 bit only.  What is occurring is this:

When both agents are installed often time when you reboot, after login but before the Desktop the computer hangs with only the wallpaper and mouse pointer.  It will hang for minutes until Explorer.exe crashes, then restarts itself and the Windows Desktop populates.  Also, users will complain of extremely slow to unfunctional Internet speeds across browsers.  I don't believe it is affecting all workstations but it is a significant amount.  To prove our theory of the culprits,

If we remove the USB Block from the Landesk client and leave the RSA agent installed, the problem goes away

If we leave the USB Block Agent installed but uninstall the RSA agent, the problem goes away.

We had brought it to both Landesk support and RSA Support but we weren't able to come to a resolution because individually, both products work as advertised but we still have a big problem that needs fixing.  We had removed the USB block for a while but that isn't a solution.

Any input is appreciated Community!

Processor running 100% on HP Pentium 4 whenever LANDesk Agent is Installed!

$

Can anyone help with a strange issue we are having?

We have recently rolled out LANDesk to all our PC's.  Doing so we have identified a problem where a HP PC with a Pentium 4 processor goes 100% with the processor whenever the LANDesk agent is installed - if it is removed again the PC returns to normal.

These PC's are old and probably do need replaced but we are holding off for VDI.  Unfortunately we have around 30 of these PC's in our organisation so it is causing quite a large problem.

agent deployment on different domain & failed inventory scans

$

Good morning,

I'm trying to push an Agent configuration to a site we have that's on a different domain (Unfortunately SBS 2003 so no domain trust possible). I've added in credentials for this domain to the Scheduler.

My plan was to push the advance agent via GPO, which works up to the point of installing the full agent but goes no further. (advance agent msi installs & copies the full exe from our core servers ldlogon folder). Information on the cleint from c:\windows\temp\advanceagent.log as follows:

Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:21:54 Create process succeeded - "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDCLient\cba8cleanup.exe" /w /g
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:21:54 Unable to create process - C:\WINDOWS\TEMPldtemp.exe
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3148: Starting Stop
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3148: Stopping: Unable to control service. Error: 1062
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Starting Unregister
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Starting Stop
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Stopping: Unable to control service. Error: 1062
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Successful Unregistered service

As an alternative I've tried installing the full agent on a test machine; this works up to the point of trying to run an inventory scan, when I am given the following error:

"Application has failed to start because elogapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

I can only find elogapi.dlm in \windows\system32 on the test client; reinstalling the agent makes no difference. Running an inventory scan from the core fails and gives the result "Unknow Status code (0xC0000135,0:309)

The agent has been tested and known to work correctly on the domain where our core server is located, so I assume this is related to permissions used to install.

Any advice would be appreciated on this matter.

Many thanks

David
