Installing Agent with gateway mode enabled upon installation

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious here, but I wanted to ask if it's possible to configure a client either within the agent configuration or installation switch so that it starts in gateway mode instead of the default direct mode. We have some off campus clients that we need to install an agent on and we'd like to make it as easy as possible for them to get up and running on LANDesk via the management gateway. TIA
