Hello,
we recently upgraded our core server to Landesk 9.0 Sp3. We now want to upgrade our clients to the latest agent, but I'm unsure about the best way to do this.
I have thought about the following 2 options, but each have it's pro's and cons.
1. Run a scheduled task at night with the Wake Up Devices option checked
Pro: users are not bothered with degraded system performance during install; apps can be installed without problems.
Con: we found out, only 75% of all computers shut down after install. 25% will stay powered on wihich causes many complaints from the organization
2. Run a scheduled task in business hours
Pro: only powered on pc's will get the client (no extra waste of energy); I can schedule the task to run every day, so in the end all pc's will be updated
Con: user will notice performance degration during a few minutes; screen will go black for a couple of seconds (mirror driver); new software cannot be installed (users get an error, then they will contact the servicedesk, the servicedesk will try to remote control the computer, but that will fail because the agent is being (un)installed) ..
Are there any alternatives to above's options? I really don't like the con's of both options, because it will cause many servicedesk calls, since we have 10.000 clients...
I'd really prefer a "Install at logoff" option for the deployment, but as far as I have been informed, this is not possible with Landesk.
Thanks in advance.
