Agent Push - Errors 1087 and 1086 - Please assist in identifying

I have pushed the agent out to 10 workstations.  3 workstations are complete.   Now I have three that failed Result Code = Unable to contact the specified machine.  The machine may be off or unreachable.  Return Code = 1087.  I have the log file attached.

Then I have 4 workstations that failed with the Result Code = The agent setup succeeded and is now rebooting.  Return Code = 1086.

If someone can tell me where I need to start looking to resolve these and get the agent on them, I would appreciate very much.

Internal Error - Return Code 1208

I have created an Advance Agent Default Windows Configuration for deployment of LanDesk 9.  We installed LanDesk on our D: drive on our core server.  I see the AdvanceAgent folder and the files created within the folder.

I tried to Push the Adv Agent to a Windows 7 machine and a Windows XP machine.  Both resulted in Failed: Status, An internal error occurred, Return Code 1208.  I've been searching for this error and haven't found anything to determine what this error is or a solution.  The Management Console for LanDesk9 in on our core server and hasn't been installed on our Tech's computers.  Our current version on our client machies is 8.80.0.249 and we are trying to upgrade to version 9.

How do we remove an agent?

I've been thru the manual, and can only find 1 or 2 instances of "remove agent", and hundreds of instances of either word by itself.

We have one user who is being harrassed by LD.  Every day LD wants to install some update/patch...even after we apply everything there is to apply manually, using remote control.

We don't know specifically what it's trying to install.  We thought for the moment that we'd just remove the agent.  But we don't know how.  I had seen LANDesk listed under Add/Remove SW on my PC, but when I connected to his, it wasn't there.  We're assuming that my LANDesk listing was for the console, rather than for the agent.

Thanks in advance for the assistance,

Tom

How to obtain UninstallWinClient.exe?

Hopefully I picked the correct forum.

I did some consulting work for a company recently that provided a custom VPN client and software as single bundle.  Apparently this bundle included the LANDesk client software.  I no longer need to access their VPN from this computer and I'd like to remove the software entirely, as it isn't entirely benign (one LANDesk process, vulscan.exe, goes off on a tangent now and again eating 100% CPU).

However, I do not have, and never have had, access to a LANDesk server installation where I could obtain UninstallWinClient.exe.  Can I download it?  Or can someone attach it or send it to me?

Advanced Agent not installing the Agent

Hello.

We're working on deploying the latest version of LDMS 9.0 SP2, and to do so we want to go and try to check our agent against a base of various computers before goign for a full deployment.

In order to do so we've created an Advanced Agent which we want to deploy on our target computers that are under the 8.8 version right now. Everything looks to be fine at first, except that as far as we can see. The taks is successfull in LDMS 8 the AdvancedAgent.exe process is running, and we can see that the full install file is indeed present on the system as it should be. Only even after a reboot, it just did not install the file.

From the log that I've attached which is the AdvancedAgent.log file from c:\windows\temp^I just understand that it download the file as it should have, only then there is this particular line that comes at each try.

Download failed to connect server - hs=0x80004005, try bypass proxy

And I don't really know what it is trying to download or even where it is trying to connect as it should just run the agent installation process.

Thanks for the help.

agent deployment on different domain & failed inventory scans

Good morning,

I'm trying to push an Agent configuration to a site we have that's on a different domain (Unfortunately SBS 2003 so no domain trust possible). I've added in credentials for this domain to the Scheduler.

My plan was to push the advance agent via GPO, which works up to the point of installing the full agent but goes no further. (advance agent msi installs & copies the full exe from our core servers ldlogon folder). Information on the cleint from c:\windows\temp\advanceagent.log as follows:

Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:21:54 Create process succeeded - "C:\Program Files\LANDesk\LDCLient\cba8cleanup.exe" /w /g
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:21:54 Unable to create process - C:\WINDOWS\TEMPldtemp.exe
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3148: Starting Stop
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3148: Stopping: Unable to control service. Error: 1062
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Starting Unregister
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Starting Stop
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Stopping: Unable to control service. Error: 1062
Wed, 06 Jul 2011 16:54:28 3640: Successful Unregistered service

As an alternative I've tried installing the full agent on a test machine; this works up to the point of trying to run an inventory scan, when I am given the following error:

"Application has failed to start because elogapi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem"

I can only find elogapi.dlm in \windows\system32 on the test client; reinstalling the agent makes no difference. Running an inventory scan from the core fails and gives the result "Unknow Status code (0xC0000135,0:309)

The agent has been tested and known to work correctly on the domain where our core server is located, so I assume this is related to permissions used to install.

Any advice would be appreciated on this matter.

Many thanks

David

9.5 - LANDesk Agent Deployment Upgrade "Agent setup program returned an error" (Push Deployment)

Upgraded agents from 9.0SP3 to 9.5AllPatches and a good portion of the agents failed to update during the push deployment. The error received in the scheduled tasks window is "Agent setup program returned an error". I remember seeing this occasionaly the last time we did a deployment but rerunning the task on the computers that had failed generally came back successful. Not the case with 9.5.

Every machine that fails has the same symptoms, which leads me to beleive they are failing for the same reason. If you check the services on a computer that had a failed installation, the ONLY landesk services that are present are "LANDesk Targeted Multicast" and "LANDesk(R) Management Agent". A way to repair the agent on the computer, is that I can run Uninstallwinclient.exe then install the agent manually with a self contained exe and the installer goes through just fine. The problem is I cannot afford to do this on every single computer that has failed. I am still working on a way to identify all of the agents that did not install correctly. At the moment I am considering a loginscript vbs file that checks for the existance of the core landesk services.

I have attached the wscfg32.xlg file with the hops that someone can point out why the agent install is failing on so many machines. If any other information is needed please let me know.

Query for LANDesk version

I am doing an agent install for 8.80 SP2A.  So I created a query based on who needed the patch, no problem.

Then I summed up those who have with those who needed and I didn't come up with all my devices.

Now I'm wondering if all the users didn't get SP2 and are on SP1

Can I create a query to find out what version of the agent is installed?

Thank you,

How to resolve agent deployment conflicts

$

So during provisioning I install a landesk agent; I've verified that the agent gets installed and everything seems fine as far as that goes.  However I have a problem after provisioning whereby that agent gets removed from the system or otherwised messed up due to a conflict with a group policy agent install.  I need help resolving the conflict.

Again, the provisioning process installs a working agent.  If I keep a newly provisioned computer in an active directory container which doesn't see group policy then it continues to work as normal.  As soon as it updates with group policy it loses its agent.  The files for LDClient are still there but the agent doesn't run and I can't manage the device from the LDMS console.

My group policy says to push the Advance Agent MSI package down to any machine which doesn't have it.  The thought is that I want to capture all of my machines because not all have been provisioned by landesk yet, and I want to make sure that all of them have the most recent agent settings.

Previously I feel that there was no conflict with this scenario, however something as recent as the past 6 weeks has changed things and now this conflict exists on any machine provisioned during this period.

Any ideas on where I should begin to resolve this conflict?

softmon causing high I/O Reads slowing down computers

We have some programmers who claim that LANDesk is disk intensive and causing major slowdown with their computers.  CPU utilization is low, but the point to Softmon.exe Policy.client.invoker, and kavehost.exe, (LANDesk related stuff), as using more than 81 times the disk IO then Visual Studio.  Specifically they are sorting Task Manager by I/O Reads to come up with this information.  We are running LANDesk antivirus.  Software monitoring has been disabled.

Programmers from other departments say they are not having problems.  I'm a network admin, and task manager shows the same hig I/O reads on my computer.  I have not experienced and slow downs.  Can anyone shed some light on the other things softmon does besides software monitoring.  I know it is involved in several processes.  Also,  anything on what the I/O read information really means would be helpful.  Here is the email we received including the screen shots from the user's computer.

Thx - Mark

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Attached are some screenshots of the amount of disk reads from Softmon and LanDesk from Uesr's computer.

User’s point is that LanDesk is disk intensive and not CPU intensive. The topprograms.png shows that LanDesk related stuff is the top 3 programs, using more than 81 times times the disk IO than Visual Studio.

Common Base Agent Not Loaded

Having a problem with the common base agent not loading onto some of our servers(Server 2003 and Server 2008). Does anyone have any idea why the agent would not be able to load from the deployment. We tried doing it through Unmanaged Device Deployment and through loading the agent directly on the server.

See attached image for details.

Thanks in Advance,

CBA_anonymous - Management Options

$

I have read the following LANDesk documentation regarding the CBA_anonymous but have a few additional questions.

  • What are the ramifications of disabling the cba_anonymous account? What won't be affected vs. what won't work?
  • How is an LDPing different from a regular ping, which requires no authentication?
  • What triggers automatic password resets for the cba_anonymous account and how frequently does that generally occur?
  • If I can manually change the cba_anonymous password, would it not be stored in the local SAM db of each server--not just in memory?
  • Can the Windows password be managed/changed by us, per corporate policy?
  • Is the cba_anonymous account created dynamically when a connection is made to the LANDesk CBA8 RPC Execute service, using Local System privileges?
  • "CBA_anonymous is an account that is created by CBA8 when an anonymous connection to it is created. It is a guest account." What are the security controls in place that limit anyone from using this logon?
  • Are there any controls that limit the use of this account to the LANDesk application only?

Any assistance would be great.  This account exists on all Windows systems that has the LANDesk agent installed and I have to justify a case for or against disabling this account as a standard, or worse having to manage the password manually.

Thank you for your help.

LDMS 9.6 Agent Configuration - "Real-time Inventory and Monitoring" missing

$

I am not able to location the Real-time Inventory and Monitoring options for the Agent.  I went ahead and created the self-contained Agent anyways and installed it. During the installation of the self contained Agent_with_status those options were listed but unchecked. After Agent install, rebooted, and tested Inspector which failed to connect due to real-time components not installed.  I have looked all over in Agent Settings, where might those settings be buried?
